Simply Cooking in Harmony evolved after 10 years as Harmony House Cookery School to run affordable small group days for you to choose a cookery activity with your own friends and family. You will find our cookery activities are designed for groups of between 4 and 12 persons where you can choose your own date, time, companions and what to cook.
The kitchen in Harmony House has been specially designed to create a homely relaxed environment you can identify with and cooking together around a large central island allows you to share ideas and 'cook in harmony'. Hilary's approach is to teach you simple recipes which you can adapt to your lifestyle, producing affordable tasty food with eye catching presentation .
Cookery breaks in our AA four star gold and breakfast award winning bed and breakfast allows you to take advantage of cooking and eating your own evening dinner party with friends or visiting York before or after your cookery workshop.
Hilary Finney holds a Diploma from the Cordon Bleu School of Cookery in London, professional qualifications from The Hotel, Catering & Institutional Management Association a City & Guilds certificate in teaching adult education.
After starting her career as 3rd chef at the Holbeck Hall Hotel in Scarborough her varied career has included cooking in directors dining rooms of large companies in the City of London, catering manager for staff restaurants and hospitality suites for companies in London then the North of England, and running a successful outside catering business for 25 years. During this time Hilary cooked for the Duke of Norfolk and family at Carlton Towers, Sir David Frost, Clarissa Dixon Wright, Ben Fogel and many more famous personalities. She taught City and Guilds 706/1 in catering at Selby College and continues to teach adult education classes for York City Council.
In 2006 Harmony House was bought and the kitchen adapted to host the cookery school and the bed & breakfast. Harmony House is ideal forsmall numbers which gives many more people accessibility to a cookery activity day.
Hilary is a qualified trainer for CIEH and RSPH in food safety and has a certified training centre to deliver training classes to businesses and individuals in the food industry. Hilary has also written a stand up cookery book called meals in minutes which is imparts a multitude of ideas showing how to adapt the recipes with other ingredients you may have at hand.
